CHASE BANKS

Educator. Percussionist. Performer.

Bio

Chase Banks is an American percussionist who has performed and taught clinics in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, and the United States. Chase’s recent accomplishments include winning an ensemble position with the 2019 edition of the World Percussion Group, Co-Founding the Green Vibes Project, and premiering four new works for vibraphone in 2018.

From a performance standpoint, Chase has toured internationally performing at numerous conservatories and universities as well as venues such as the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Chase has also played with many chamber ensembles and professional and regional orchestras in the Southeast including the South Carolina Philharmonic, Augusta Symphony Orchestra, Augusta Choral Society, and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. Chase spent time in the summer of 2018 at the Chosen Vale Center for Advanced Musical Studies studying with percussion pedagogues Michael Burritt, Nancy Zeltsman, Cynthia Yeh, Doug Perkins, and Colin Currie.

An advocate for new music, Chase has led and been a member of multiple consortiums and commissioning projects including works by David Skidmore, Gene Koshinski, Andrea Venet, Shaun Tilburg, and Brian Nozny. Chase has also premiered numerous works for wind band, chamber ensemble, and solo repertoire including Twice Handeled and Dark Holler by David Kirkland Garner. In August of 2018 Chase and his wife Christine started the Green Vibes Project after they saw a need for sustainability awareness in the classical music market. The Green Vibes Project is a new venture with the main goal to promote the composition and performance of new and lesser-known musical works. As the name states, this “green” organization focuses on commissioning music that utilizes metal-based instruments, and recycled instrumentation (i.e. recyclable materials such as scrap metal, cardboard, glass bottles, etc.) to promote environmental sustainability, and provide meaningful repertoire to the percussion literature.
